Barbara
Before working at the Coffee Shop I worked at Old Vets as a veterinary nurse.
I have a job that I enjoy doing and I look forward to coming to work. I have made lots of new friends, both the girls I work with and also the customers.
I have learned new skills in my job, being able to make the perfect omelette is the one I'm most proud of(!) and also learning how to prepare and set up for our functions. I really enjoy that part of my work.
I now have gained my Food and Hygiene certificate and my key skills in Numeracy (and I thought I was to old to learn!) but I have had good teachers with 'chelle and Mike, provided through The Crossing.

Previously I worked in the Age Concern Restaurant for five years where I served and cooked dinners for the aged.
Working in the coffee shop, I have gained more wonderful friends. The staff are really great to work with and we have a good laugh, while still getting on with our work.
Working in The Crossing I have gained more confidence in preparing different foods and met different kinds of people from all walks of life. While I have been here I have gained both my Health and Safety and my Basic Food and Hygiene certificates.

Before I came to work at the coffee shop I worked as a housewife, looking after my two children and helping out at a local primary school.
Working in the coffee shop has made a difference to me, as it is not just about making a profit. Customers who visit us like to come in for a chat as well as their scrumptious food! I have made many friends, young and old, who keep coming back as they enjoy the friendly atmosphere and feel comfortable.
The Crossing has helped me feel comfortable getting back to work after a few years bringing up my children. It has helped me become part of a good team, who all get on together to make the business run. I have passed my Food and Hygiene certificate and also been on a Life Skills course.
