Parish
St Paul's Church meets in the heart of Walsall's town centre. Through our facilities at The Crossing we have great opportunities to serve the people who work and shop in the town centre.
But St Paul's is more than a town centre Church. We are also committed to the parish of St Paul, which encompasses most of the historic district of The Butts and a large part of Chuckery, as well as the mainly commercial and industrial centre of the town.

History
In 1554 Queen Mary's School was founded in Walsall by Mary Tudor. We can see this as the beginning of the history of St. Paul's Church as, without the school, there would have been no Church. In 1826 St. Paul's Chapel was consecrated on the site of the present Church. It was the chapel to Queen Mary's School, whose headmaster at that time was always a Church of England clergyman.
1865 saw the arrival in Walsall of Dorothy Wyndlow Pattison, better known as Sister Dora - the founder of the first cottage hospital in Walsall and the first non-royal lady in Britain to have a statue erected in her memory. For many years Sister Dora worshipped at St. Paul's Chapel.
By 1890 the Chapel was too small and on 3rd April 1892 the final service was held. The present Church was consecrated on 28 September 1893 - one year and ten days after the foundation stone was laid.
The architect was John Loughborough Pearson who also designed Truro Cathedral and, among others, eight Churches in London. It is in the Gothic style and built of stone from Hollington, near Uttoxeter.
The area around St. Paul's has largely changed from residential to commercial. To meet this change the Church was re-ordered during 1994-95 and the whole building is now known as The Crossing at St. Paul's.
